Computed tomography (or 3D diagnostics, CT) plays a key role in developing a treatment plan in dentistry. At the Symmetrica Dental Restoration Center, the patient's CT scan is performed under the supervision of an assistant, and the Orthophos XG 3D X-ray system takes 200 X-rays in one rotation around the head.
From these images, the system builds a three-dimensional model of the maxillofacial area, which allows for examination from different angles and projections.
The registered results help to choose the appropriate treatment if prosthetics or correction of the bite are necessary.
Static baropodometry
The method will help determine how the weight of your body is distributed on the feet. The doctor will pay attention to whether you are standing straight and whether there is an overload of one leg, which helps to understand the relationship between posture and bite.
Stabilometry
The study assesses your resilience and ability to maintain balance. The doctor sees if the body compensates for the posture disorder and how it affects the neck and maxillofacial area.
Goniometry
During the test, you can see how freely the neck moves and whether the movements are symmetrical. This helps to identify limitations that can create discomfort in the jaws when talking or chewing.
Indications
Axiography helps to identify hidden functional disorders that are difficult to notice during a routine examination.
Main indications:
difficult or limited opening of the mouth;
clicking, crunching, discomfort in the area of the temple and jaw joints;
frequent headaches, discomfort in the face and neck;
tinnitus or ringing in the ears without apparent ENT causes;
rapid fatigue of the jaws during conversation or chewing;
drawing up an orthodontic treatment plan;
frequent headaches, discomfort in the face and neck;
signs of bruxism or increased abrasion of teeth;
planning and evaluation of the results of the treatment.
Axiography is often combined with computed tomography. The complex application of these 2 methods of examination allows the doctor to make an accurate diagnosis and form a predictable treatment plan.
Stages of implementation
STAGE 1
Preparation.
The patient occupies a comfortable position in the chair, and the doctor attaches optical sensors to the defined areas of the maxillofacial region.
STAGE 2
Connections.
The axiograph connects to the computer system. Special software is ready to record in real time all the parameters of the jaw movement.
STAGE 3
Record.
The patient performs simple movements as directed by the doctor: opens and closes the mouth, moves the lower jaw forward and to the sides. The system records the trajectories of movements, builds graphs and displays them on the monitor.
STAGE 4
Analysis of the results.
The doctor analyzes in detail the function of the joints, the peculiarities of jaw movements and possible deviations from the norm.
